From the top of the church spire of Sainte Marie (96 steps) there is a splendid view over the vineyards and sea as far as the islands of Oléron and Aix. Don’t forget your binoculars!

Every Tuesday at 10:00 a.m from Easter to the end of September.(40 mins)

Tickets should be booked at the Tourist Information Center. Not recommended for people  with walking difficulties.

Starting in the place d’Antioche, discover the oldest part of the village. Every Wednesday at 10:30 from July to the end of September. Length 1 H 30.

The 5 Landscapes Trail : Le sentier des 5 paysages de Sainte Marie de Ré permet de découvrir la faune et la flore du village

Sainte Marie de Ré town, the « LPO » and « Re Nature Environment », offer a ride stroll at your own pace through various natural landscapes.

This trail will offer to you the possibility to discover small town’s alleys, forest, the coast and old salt marsh, witch became some major sites of Re island biodiversity.

Along the way, you will find 5 desks with wildlife and flora in 5 main scenery you will come across.

8 km trail – about 2 hours – autonomy trail – All year long

While parents are following their own visit, a guide come with children from 6 to 11 years old, to a discovery privileged of Sainte Marie de Ré. Every Tueday at 10:30 from April to September. Price : 3 €/pax

Family quizz « Rébulle » Livret Jeu Rébulle

Family quizz: A nice little fish called « Rébulle » “Bubbles” is ready to accompany children over 6 (with or without family) to discover the center of the village.

Different riddles help to find the clue to the route while at the same time learning something of the history and customs of the island.

The church « Notre Dame de l’Assomption »

The church of Sainte Marie was built around the XIIth century on the ruins of Eudes d’Aquitaine’s stronghold. Its gothic spire  has been classed  a « monument historique »; worth the climb to the top.

Chapel « Saint Sauveur »

Legend has it that this chapel was built in 596 by a Spanish princess who had been saved from shipwreck nearby. In 1912, the building was restored and the catholic church organizes a poignant pilgrimage on the 6 of August every year.

Chapel « Port Notre Dame »

 This chapel was given back to Sainte Marie in 1815 having been in ruins since the 16th century. Since then it underwent further repair at the beginning of the 20th century.
